Waiting for God

* * *

I am gripped by how often Scripture emphasizes waiting as an essential element in our relationship with God. The following are just a few more examples.

Psalms 5:3 Lord, in the morning you shall hear my voice. In the morning I will lay my requests before you, and will watch expectantly.

Psalms 33:20 Our soul has waited for the Lord. He is our help and our shield.

Psalms 37:7 Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him. Don’t fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who makes wicked plots happen.

Psalms 37:34 Wait for the Lord, and keep his way, and he will exalt you to inherit the land. When the wicked are cut off, you shall see it.

Psalms 40:1 I waited patiently for the Lord. He turned to me, and heard my cry.

Psalms 119:166 I have hoped for your salvation, Lord. I have done your commandments.

Proverbs 8:34 Blessed is the man who hears me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at my door posts.

Isaiah 26:8 Yes, in the way of your judgments, Lord, have we waited for you. Your name and your renown are the desire of our soul.

Lamentations 3:24 The Lord is my portion, says my soul; therefore will I hope in him.

Micah 7:7 But as for me, I will look to the Lord. I will wait for the God of my salvation. My God will hear me.

Acts 1:4 Being assembled together with them, he commanded them, “Don’t depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which you heard from me.

Hebrews 6:12  . . . imitators of those who through faith and patience inherited the promises.
