Infinitely Important

The Infinite Mind & Heart
Of the Infinite Lord

* * *

We could argue much about the power of God’s mind and heart just from basics, but I’ll stick closely to Scripture.

The Almighty’s intellect and attention to detail is so stupendous that he cares for every plant (Luke 12:28) and keeps track of every bird (Luke 12:6) – even ones humans do not value (Luke 12:24) – and yet we are many times more important to God than any animal (Luke 12:7) – even ones that humans value (Matthew 12:12). The Greek word for many in Luke 12:7 does not just mean several. It is used in Mark 10:45, for example: “For the Son of Man also came . . . to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Our God is endlessly with us from the moment of our conception; knowing our most private thoughts before we even think them (Psalm 139:1-18).

An astonishing Being who keeps tabs of every hair on your head (Luke 12:7), whose stunning abilities soar way beyond all we could ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20) and whose love is so mind-boggling as to be beyond comprehension (Ephesians 2:7; 3:19; Psalm 57:10; 103:11, 17), has to be so personal that alongside him, the most sensitive, passionate and compassionate of us are as uncaring machines.

Jesus taught that, relative to God, the best of us are evil (Matthew 7:11) and no one but God is good (Matthew 19:17). If we, as evil, self-centered and dull-minded as we are, know how to love our children and give them good things, how much more does God! It is not that the Almighty cares for us almost as much as a mother does for her only child; it is that God totally eclipses such love and attention and devotion (Psalm 27:10; Isaiah 49:15).
