Old Testament Scriptures divinely designed to inspire missionary activity


1. Prophecies

Genesis 22:18 All the nations of the earth will be blessed by your offspring, because you have obeyed my voice.

Isaiah 2:2-4 It shall happen in the latter days, that the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established on the top of the mountains . . . all nations shall flow to it. Many peoples shall go and say, “Come, let’s go up . . . to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths.” For out of Zion the law shall go out, and the Lord’s word from Jerusalem. He will judge between the nations, and will decide concerning many peoples . . .

Isaiah 11:9-10  . . . for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea. It will happen in that day that the nations will seek the root of Jesse, who stands as a banner of the peoples . . .

Isaiah 19:18-24 In that day, there will be five cities in the land of Egypt that speak the language of Canaan, and swear to the Lord of Armies. One will be called “The city of destruction.” In that day, there will be an altar to the Lord in the middle of the land of Egypt, and a pillar to the Lord at its border. It will be for a sign and for a witness to the Lord of Armies in the land of Egypt; for they will cry to the Lord because of oppressors, and he will send them a savior and a defender, and he will deliver them. The Lord will be known to Egypt, and the Egyptians will know the Lord in that day. Yes, they will worship with sacrifice and offering, and will vow a vow to the Lord, and will perform it. The Lord will strike Egypt, striking and healing. They will return to the Lord, and he will be entreated by them, and will heal them. . . . the Egyptians will worship with the Assyrians. In that day, Israel will be the third with Egypt and with Assyria, a blessing within the earth

Isaiah 45:22 Look to me, and be saved, all the ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other.

Isaiah 49:6  . . . I will also give you as a light to the nations, that you may be my salvation to the end of the earth.

Isaiah 60:3 Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.

Isaiah 66:19  . . . I will send those who escape of them to the nations, to Tarshish, Pul, and Lud, who draw the bow, to Tubal and Javan, to far-away islands, who have not heard my fame, nor have seen my glory; and they shall declare my glory among the nations.

Isaiah 66:23 It shall happen that from one new moon to another, and from one Sabbath to another, all flesh will come to worship before me,” says the Lord.

Jeremiah 3:17  . . . all the nations will be gathered to it, to the Lord’s name, to Jerusalem. They will no longer walk after the stubbornness of their evil heart.

Jeremiah 4:2 and you shall swear, ‘As the Lord lives,’ in truth, in justice, and in righteousness. The nations shall bless themselves in him, and in him shall they glory.

Jeremiah 12:14-17 The Lord says against all my evil neighbors, who touch the inheritance which I have caused my people Israel to inherit: behold, I will pluck them up from off their land, and will pluck up the house of Judah from among them. It shall happen, after that I have plucked them up, I will return and have compassion on them; and I will bring them again, every man to his heritage, and every man to his land. It shall happen, if they will diligently learn the ways of my people, to swear by my name, As the Lord lives; even as they taught my people to swear by Baal; then shall they be built up in the middle of my people. But if they will not hear, then I will pluck up that nation, plucking up and destroying it, says the Lord.

Ezekiel 20:9 But I worked for my name’s sake, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, among which they were, in whose sight I made myself known to them, in bringing them out of the land of Egypt.

Ezekiel 47:23 It shall happen, that in what tribe the stranger lives, there you shall give him his inheritance, says the Lord.

Joel 2:28, 32 It will happen afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh . . . that whoever will call on the Lord’s name shall be saved . . .

Amos 9:12 “ . . . all the nations who are called by my name,” says the Lord . . .

Zephaniah 3:9-10 For then I will purify the lips of the peoples, that they may all call on the Lord’s name, to serve him shoulder to shoulder. From beyond the rivers of Cush, my worshipers, even the daughter of my dispersed people, will bring my offering.

Zechariah 8:22-23 Yes, many peoples and strong nations will come to seek the Lord of Armies in Jerusalem, and to entreat the favor of the Lord.” The Lord of Armies says: “In those days, ten men will take hold, out of all the languages of the nations, they will take hold of the skirt of him who is a Jew, saying, ‘We will go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.’ ”

Zechariah 14:16 It will happen that everyone who is left of all the nations that came against Jerusalem will go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of Armies, and to keep the feast of tents.

Malachi 1:11 For from the rising of the sun even to the going down of the same, my name is great among the nations, and in every place incense will be offered to my name, and a pure offering: for my name is great among the nations,” says the Lord of Armies.

2. God’s Song Book

Psalm 22:27 All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord. All the relatives of the nations shall worship before you.

Psalm 67:1-2, 7  . . . May God be merciful to us, bless us, and cause his face to shine on us. Selah. That your way may be known on earth, and your salvation among all nations . . . God will bless us. All the ends of the earth shall fear him.

Psalm 72:8-11, 17 He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, from the River to the ends of the earth. Those who dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him. His enemies shall lick the dust. The kings of Tarshish and of the islands will bring tribute. The kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts. Yes, all kings shall fall down before him. All nations shall serve him. . . . Men shall be blessed by him. All nations will call him blessed.

Psalm 86:9 All nations you have made will come and worship before you, Lord. They shall glorify your name.

Psalm 87:4 I will record Rahab and Babylon among those who acknowledge me. Behold, Philistia, Tyre, and also Ethiopia . . .

Psalms 96:2-3 Sing to the Lord! Bless his name! Proclaim his salvation from day to day! Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples.
