Eating and Drinking with “Sinners”

Matthew 9:10-13 As he sat in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with Jesus and his disciples. When the Pharisees saw it, they said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” When Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Those who are healthy have no need for a physician, but those who are sick do. But you go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,’ for I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”

Luke 7:34 The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Behold, a gluttonous man, and a drunkard; a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’

Luke 15:2 The Pharisees and the scribes murmured, saying, “This man welcomes sinners, and eats with them.”

Luke 19:7 When they saw it, they all murmured, saying, “He has gone in to lodge with a man who is a sinner.”
