More tolerable for Sodom

Matthew 11:23-24 You, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, you will go down to Hades. For if the mighty works had been done in Sodom which were done in you, it would have remained until today. But I tell you that it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom, on the day of judgment, than for you.

Matthew 10:15 Most certainly I tell you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city.

Note: Although some Bible versions refer to ‘the land of Sodom’ in Matthew 10:15 and Matthew 11:24, what is in focus is not the land but the people who lived there. “ . . . the word ‘land’ indicates the people who inhabit that it,” writes William Hendriksen, Exposition of the Gospel of Matthew, 1973, page 460.
