Deuteronomy 15:7-8 If a poor man, one of your brothers, is with you within any of your gates in your land which the Lord your God gives you, you shall not harden your heart, nor shut your hand from your poor brother; but you shall surely open your hand to him, and shall surely lend him sufficient for his need, which he lacks.

Psalms 82:3 Defend the weak, the poor, and the fatherless. Maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed.

Psalms 82:4 Rescue the weak and needy. Deliver them out of the hand of the wicked.

Isaiah 58:6-7,10 Isn’t this the fast that I have chosen: to release the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every yoke? Isn’t it to distribute your bread to the hungry, and that you bring the poor who are cast out to your house? When you see the naked, that you cover him; and that you not hide yourself from your own flesh? . . . and if you pour out your soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul: then your light will rise in darkness, and your obscurity will be as the noonday

Jeremiah 22:16 “He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then it was well. Wasn’t this to know me? says the Lord.

Daniel 4:27 Therefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to you, and break off your sins by righteousness, and your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor; if there may be a lengthening of your tranquility.

Hosea 6:6 For I desire mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.

Hosea 10:12 Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap according to kindness. Break up your fallow ground; for it is time to seek the Lord, until he comes and rains righteousness on you.

Amos 5:15 Hate evil, love good, and establish justice in the courts. It may be that the Lord, the God of Armies, will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.

Micah 6:8 He has shown you, O man, what is good. What does the Lord require of you, but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?

Zechariah 7:9 Thus has the Lord of Armies spoken, saying, ‘Execute true judgment, and show kindness and compassion every man to his brother.
