God Delights in Uplifting the Lowly and Oppressed

* * *

Psalms 34:18 The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit.

Psalms 72:4 He will judge the poor of the people. He will save the children of the needy, and will break the oppressor in pieces.

Psalms 102: 19-20 For he has looked down from the height of his sanctuary. From heaven, the Lord saw the earth; to hear the groans of the prisoner; to free those who are condemned to death.

Psalms 147:3 He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.

Isaiah 11:4 but with righteousness he will judge the poor, and decide with equity for the humble of the earth. . . .

Isaiah 40:11,29 He will feed his flock like a shepherd. He will gather the lambs in his arm, and carry them in his bosom. He will gently lead those who have their young. . . . He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might.

Isaiah 42:1-3,6-7 Behold, my servant, whom I uphold;my chosen, in whom my soul delights — I have put my Spirit on him. He will bring justice to the nations. He will not shout, nor raise his voice, nor cause it to be heard in the street. He won’t break a bruised reed. He won’t quench a dimly burning wick. He will faithfully bring justice . . . I, the Lord, have called you in righteousness, and will hold your hand, and will keep you, and make you a covenant for the people, as a light for the nations; to open the blind eyes, to bring the prisoners out of the dungeon, and those who sit in darkness out of the prison.

Isaiah 57:15 For thus says the high and lofty One who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also who is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite.”

Isaiah 61:1-3 The Lord’s Spirit is on me; because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the humble. He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, . .  to comfort all who mourn; to provide for those who mourn in Zion, to give to them a garland for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness . . .

Jeremiah 31:25 For I have satiated the weary soul, and every sorrowful soul have I replenished.

Ezekiel 34:15-16,20-22 I myself will be the shepherd of my sheep, and I will cause them to lie down, says the Lord. I will seek that which was lost, and will bring back that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick: but the fat and the strong I will destroy; I will feed them in justice. . . . Therefore thus says the Lord to them: Behold, I, even I, will judge between the fat sheep and the lean sheep. Because you thrust with side and with shoulder, and push all the diseased with your horns, until you have scattered them abroad; therefore will I save my flock, and they shall no more be a prey . . .

Matthew 11:28 Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

2 Corinthians 7:6 Nevertheless, he who comforts the lowly, God, comforted us . . .
